Tuck Everlasting
The fourth and fifth grade are concluding the year by visiting the Life Education Van, studying the rain forest, visiting a National Historic Site, and participating in Super Kid's Day.
Students wrote a paper on their favorite food that had three main ideas with supporting details and a conclusion.
They also studied the rain forest and made PowerPoint presentations on animals, plants, and people of the rain forest in addition to concluding MAPS testing.
RVH fourth grade classes recently studied body systems and visited the Life Education Van.
In the library students participated in a recycling center activity.
Students from all grades brought in items from home to see what recycles and what does not and where it goes.
With non-recyclable items they held a contest to see what ideas for use students could come up with so they didn't have to throw them away.

Students with May birthdays in Rob Adolph's class include Kaitlyn Brodbeck, Corbin Brown, and Cameron Janssen.

Lisa Harris' fifth grade reading classes recently finished reading "Tuck Everlasting" by Natalie Babbit.
Students then wrote paragraphs about whether or not they would drink water.
Following this the students drank "life's potion," which is mentioned in the book, and decorated an empty bottle to represent a special power they wish they could possess.
Mrs.
Harris' class is now reading "Surviving the Applewhites" by Stephanie S.
Tolan.
Her students with birthdays include Schyler Nepote, Caitlin Chiartano, and Christian Vandenberg.
Joye Townsend's social studies class recently studied Kansas during the 1800s, which prepared students for a visit to the National Historic Site in Fort Scott on May 8.
At the fort they watched presentations titled Opening of the West, Bleeding Kansas, and the Civil War.
They then went to Gunn Park for a picnic.

In Jennifer Ziegler's English class, students are cooking in class and learning about technical writing.
Those with birthdays in her class include Elizabeth Crumpacker, Sam Kroenke, Katy Pitts, Tyler Green, and Grant Lord.
The fourth and fifth grade participated in Super Kid's Day on May 7.
Fifth graders recently visited the middle school where they toured the school and ate lunch in the high school cafeteria.
On May 20 they will participate in the annual track meet and picnic.
The DARE graduation and Moving-Up Ceremony will be held May 22 at 9 a.m.
in the RVH gym.
